Givenchy's fall-winter 2011-12 ready-to-wear collection by designer Riccardo Tisci was clearly inspired by hip hop wear. Tisci's respect for street wear and his ability to mix styles fresh off the streets of Paris, Tokyo, Cairo and Rio into the world of high fashion has helped him become one of the most acclaimed designers of the day.

In his latest collection, ultra short, flippy skirts in fur or black satin were attached to sheer, tight pencil skirts. A-line skirts had much longer translucent underskirts, through which the model's opaque, thigh-high stockings showed. This was the lady's version of Tisci's snarling rottweiler-covered menswear collection, from the sweatshirts to the leather lettermen jackets down to the oversized fur-covered glasses which appeared on both runways. The glossy invitations were printed with a black panther on one side and orchids on the other, and the runway show featured the overpowering odor of hothouse flowers and the menacing growl of a panther on the soundtrack.
